Here is a description of the different options, outputs and formats you can select for your AutoAlerts.

Viewing your Results Inline

If you choose Inline under Email Options, you can select HTML or ASCII only as the Output Type.

Viewing your Results as an Attachment

If you choose As an Attachment under Email Options, you can select any of the Output Types - HTML, ASCII, Excel, XML or RIS.

Result formats

You must select Ovid Labeled Citation as the result format if your output type is HTML, Excel, XML or RIS.

BRS/Tagged and Reprint/MEDLARS are older Reference Manager formats. If you choose BRS/Tagged or Reprint/MEDLARS for the output format, you must select Inline for the Email Options and ASCII for the Output Type.

Here's an example of ASCII output presented inline in BRS/Tagged format:

You can see the record numbers, followed by 2-letter field labels (e.g. AU) and the field information (e.g. the authors' names).

Here's an example of ASCII output presented inline in Reprint/MEDLARS format:

As in BRS/Tagged format, you see the record numbers, 2-letter field labels and the field information, but the field information is presented on separate lines.
